TR-Auto Closer Fitting Instructions for Standard Set

Tips for fitting Non-Standard TR Sets

The Non-Standard sets are normally used on double doors in corridors, doors above stair wells, outer doors that open inwards and doors on rooms where there is internal pressure or vacuum problems

The ideal configuration would be, starting from the top, spring, general, hydraulic and finally spring.

Fitting from scratch, make sure the springs have no tension on them and fit to the top and bottom of the door as usual. Fit the general hinge about 8/10 cm below the top hinge.

Set both the spring hinges on the third setting then hold open the door at 90 degrees and let go.

If there is further adjustment required to increase the tension then only adjusts the top hinge accordingly.

Now check that the hydraulic adjustment screw is would out so that the cut in the screw head is level with top of the barrel and by hand move the flags backwards and forwards to make sure there is a smooth action.

Fit hydraulic, hold open the door at 90 degrees and let go. Note the rate of closure and by adjusting the screw a quarter of a turn you will see the rate of closure slowly reduce. Repeat until you have the best rate of closure and still keeping your latching action.

In no circumstance should the screw be wound right down as far as it will go.

Tips for changing standard to non standard TR Sets

If you have fitted a standard set and not achieving a good latching action then an additional spring is required.

Release the tension on the top spring. Take away the general hinge at the bottom and replace with the extra spring hinge.

Re-site the general hinge about 8/10 cm below the top spring hinge.

Remove the hydraulic hinge.

You should now have spring, general and spring fitted, Set both of the spring hinges at the third level hold the door open at 90 degrees and let go. Only adjust the top hinge to increase or decrease tension. Move the door backwards and forwards a few times to make sure the door has a smooth action.

Checking that the hydraulic adjustment screw is wound out so that the cut in the screw is level with the top of the barrel, take a flag in each hand and move the flags backwards and forwards to check there is a smooth action.

Fit the hydraulic, hold the door open at 90 and check that the latching action is OK. Now by turning the screw downward by a quarter of a turn at a time you should reduce the rate of closure and still keep your latching action.
